About the job
What We Expect From You
• Develops and executes departmental and company procedures
• Acts as a champion for the Editorial department
• Meets with other department heads and/or brand teams that require additional editorial resources
• Determines and assigns product responsibilities of each editor/proofreader
• Coordinates freelancers’ schedules and adapts departmental resources when staffing deficiencies or excessive workload increases arise
• Editing responsibilities (includes proofreading, fact-checking, and styling major promotional print pieces in accordance with AMA and client guidelines)
• Establishes and maintains policies and procedures for the department, including client, FDA, and AMA updates
• Ensures appropriate expense control and achieves budgetary goals on assigned brand(s)
• Motivates staff and keeps them well informed of any procedural changes
• Ensures editorial style is meticulously maintained for each assigned brand
• Conducts performance evaluations for direct reports
• Hires and trains staff
• Interacts with clients in the interest of solving problems and/or establishing policies and guidelines relevant to their business, as required
Background/experience And Skills
• At least 5 years at a pharmaceutical/healthcare advertising agency
• Prior supervisory experience or demonstrated equivalent
• Medical education experience, as applicable
• In-depth knowledge of AMA style (11th edition) and familiarity with FDA regulations
• Bachelor’s degree or graduate degree in a related field
• Expertise in MS Office, including Word and PowerPoint; comfort working in Acrobat
• Internet search capability
