Purpose Of The Job
The Business Development operations and intelligence group provides intelligence support through the management of internal information as well as the development of technology capabilities that provide strategic advantages to the Lilly Business Development and External Innovation teams. Having precise, accurate and up-to-date information of internal Lilly business development activities is a critical basis for understanding the success of overall business development activities. Integrating this internal information with external information though technology initiatives will provide Lilly a strategic advantage over our competitors as we automate analysis. The operations and intelligence Senior/ Associate Consultant will be responsible for ensuring a broad variety of internal information is accurately and precisely captured in real time. The Senior/ Associate Consultant will also ensure that the internal data is appropriately integrated into multiple analysis and reporting tools, which will be developed and maintained within the team.
The core of the Business Intelligence Senior/ Associate Consultant role is to be a trusted and valued business partner who has deep technical understanding and data expertise along with a strong analytical skill set to partner with Lilly’s internal teams to provide expertise in right to operate activities as well as intelligence research and analysis that informs Lilly’s broader external innovation strategy.

Responsibilities
- Work within Business Development operations and intelligence team to broadly ensure support of “right-to-operate” activities such as;
- Lead projects close out activities by ensuring all documents and activities are captured with appropriate context in applicable systems. These activities will require the ability to interpret complex scientific and business information to determine appropriate metadata for future analysis activities and engagement across S&E, legal, alliance management, corporate diligence, ventures and transactions teams
- Ensure accurate, precise and timely data collection and reporting for internal and external business development activities
- Engage in INOVA remediation activities to ensure data from previous business development activities contains appropriate metadata to support future analysis
- Work collaboratively within the Business Development Intelligence team to prioritize work and deliver on time-sensitive requests, including collecting and managing internal data as well as authoring internal reports for senior leadership
- Provide real-time surveillance of large pharma peers regarding deals executed and impact to Lilly’s priorities/business
- Manage incoming business development opportunities as appropriate by working with S&E and transactions teams to determine overall interest in potential deals and manage information in appropriate systems
- Support intelligence projects by working collaboratively with business intelligence, venture science and Growth & Strategy teams. Apply analytical and creative problem-solving skills to bring data from multiple sources together and contextualize for research/business meaning. Projects may include, but are not limited to, landscapes (target, disease, clinical, or technology), pipeline analyses, company profiles, and other transaction thesis
- Identify relevant and reliable sources of data/information or surrogate information sources to quickly incorporate into useful formats to inform broader transactions
- Identify and suggest alternative paths of inquiry for solving complex or challenging problems. An inquisitive mindset and a passion for investigating hard-to-find information when addressing questions with ambiguity and uncertainty is necessary
- Be able to provide and defend gathered intelligence, methodology, content, and conclusions to leadership in a clear, concise format
- Advanced Masters/PhD in a Pharma/Biotech/scientific field from an accredited college or university
- 5-8 years of relevant experience in scientific or pharmaceutical intelligence roles, specifically in early-stage development
- Excellent organizational skills: able to manage multiple projects and juggle conflicting priorities in an ambiguous environment
- Demonstrated high learning agility; able to quickly grasp new concepts and absorb large amounts of information under pressure
- Ability to simplify complex information and concepts in a clear, concise, and digestible format so the reader can quickly understand the content and conclusions of the analysis
- Advanced capabilities in Microsoft PowerPoint, Excel Power Query, and Power BI
- MBA or equivalent experience with focus on business development & intelligence activities
- Relevant scientific or intelligence experience in one or more research areas of interest for Lilly (oncology, diabetes and related complications, immunology, neurodegeneration, pain, genetic medicines, or emerging platform technologies
- Experience with artificial intelligence, machine learning, natural language processing, or designing user interfaces
- Strong work ethic, personal motivation, and team player who is dynamic and results oriented
- Ability to operate effectively in an international matrix environment, with ability to work across time zones (true global team base)
- Strong desire to build and own their personal brand as they interact across a dynamic team
