Job Description
Content Summary: Grant Writing Specialist at Washington, for Rare Genomics Institute

We are looking for a motivated, talented volunteer to join RGI as a member of the grant writing team. The Grant Writer will be responsible for researching, writing, and submitting grant proposals to secure funding for our large language model (LLM) enhanced genomics analysis project. In addition to researching and writing grants, you will help oversee the overall grant management process by tracking reporting deadlines and ensuring compliance with funding requirements.

This role requires excellent writing skills, a deep understanding of the grant application process, and the ability to articulate the significance and impact of our project. This position will report to the VP of Finance and work with the Project Lead, researchers, and development team to identify funding opportunities and submit compelling proposals.

You will work remotely and on your own schedule.

Responsibilities

  • Research and identify potential grant opportunities from foundations, government agencies, and other funding sources
  • Write, edit, and submit high-quality grant proposals, including narratives, budgets, and supporting documentation
  • Collaborate with professionals across RGI to gather necessary information and data for proposals
  • Ensure all grant applications comply with funder guidelines and requirements
  • Maintain a calendar of grant deadlines and ensure timely submission of all proposals
  • Track and report on the status of submitted proposals and funding received
  • Build and maintain relationships with grant-making organizations and funders
  • Assist with other fundraising and development activities as needed

Qualifications

  • Proven experience in grant writing and securing funding for nonprofit or research projects
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and proofreading skills
  • Advanced research skills and the ability to identify relevant, actionable grant opportunities
  • Ability to understand and communicate complex scientific and technical concepts to a general audience
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to ensure compliance with the terms and requirements of funding sources
  • Ability to improve the grant proposal process by anticipating potential objections and incorporating feedback
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and grant management software

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in the healthcare, biotechnology, and/or life science space
  • Familiarity with the grant application processes of foundations and government agencies
  • Knowledge of budget preparation and financial reporting for grant proposals
