Production Research Scientist

JOB PURPOSE:

Independently leads local Production Research efforts aligned with Crop Team objectives and priorities as defined and prioritized through the prioritization process. Maintains connections with peers, Crop Specialists as well as with field production, seed processing and Quality. Validates new technologies under local conditions to improve seed quality, yield and reduce cost. Solves seed production problems while exhibiting judgment and a realistic understanding of issues. Combines result-oriented leadership with initiative and foresight leading to proactive data driven support and decisions. Uses statistical analysis to solve problems.

YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Member of the Veg SPI Crop Squad.
  • Contributes to innovation with own ideas and can channel requests from Crop Teams to Vegetable Innovation/SPI Veg.
  • Defines the research question and/or problem, conducts a literature review, formulates a hypothesis, and sets priorities, all in consultation with key stakeholders.
  • Responsible for phase 1-3 project management, statistical data analysis, reporting and communication. Leads and conducts field research, while being hands on in the lab/operations and field as needed.
  • Organize parental characterization trials, and phase 4 data collection timely and according to agreed procedures and protocols in collaboration with Production Pipeline specialist
  • Provides proactively data driven support and decisions by taking initiative and applying fast learning.
  • Leverages insights from relevant colleagues by maintaining connections with peers, specialists as well as with representatives in Field production, Crop teams, SPI, Quality.
  • Identifies root causes of problems with Field Production and potential solutions by employing multiple problem-solving strategies that are in line with the crop teams
  • Works with the Bayer networks to enhance performance through sharing and implementation of best practices.
  • Makes use of company IT systems to document results and ensuring future FTO.
  • Participates in departmental ISO quality audits and procedure documentation.

WHO YOU ARE:

  • MSc in Agricultural Science, Agronomy or Biology field required. PhD 1 year, MSc 3 years, BSc 5-8 years
  • Excellent communication – oral, written, under diverse circumstances and audiences.
  • Results driven and capacity to influence within a matrixed organization and across functions.
  • Very strong ability to navigate in a multicultural environment.
  • A track record of successful project delivery.
