Center for Innovation (C4i)

Classification: Level 3 / Class 2052 / Full-Time / Exempt / Contract / Benefited

Anticipated Hiring Salary: $90,000 (Sr. Research manager)

The Role And Responsibilities

The Center for Innovation (C4i) at UC Law San Francisco seeks a Senior Research Fellow to support the Center’s public interest research and to work directly with Professor Robin Feldman. The research topics and writing will relate largely to legislative and regulatory reform of pharmaceutical pricing, but may also include artificial intelligence, information integrity, intellectual property, and other topics.

The ideal applicant will have a J.D. and between one and five years of law practice or legal research experience. A one-year position is possible for those between law school and clerkship. Academically inclined recent law-school graduates, law firm litigation associates, and government attorneys highly encouraged to apply. This is a contract position.

Typical duties and responsibilities consist of, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Performing legal research to support academic publications
  • Writing sections of white papers and academic research
  • Writing reports of results for funders and policymakers
  • Supervise and manage Research Manager, including assigning tasks and providing guidance
  • Editing papers designed for peer-reviewed or law journal publications
  • Designing and implementing data analysis and research plans
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • J.D., ideally with some law practice or legal research experience
  • Policy and/or data research experience preferred

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Experience with brief writing, particularly appellate briefs
  • Experience with or ability to learn databases such as Westlaw and Lexis
  • Must have excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Articulate and detail-oriented with excellent organizational skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work in an open, cooperative workspace. (Remote work will be considered on a case-by-case basis for highly experienced applicants.)
