We have an exciting opportunity for a Water Environment Senior Scientist to join our Water Environment business based in Belfast or Letterkenny.

Responsibilities

  • Provide expertise and lead, manage and co-ordinate multidisciplinary environmental inputs across a diverse range of water environment projects.
  • Manage the preparation of EIA screening and scoping reports, environmental assessments/ Environmental Statements (and in the future Environmental Outcomes Reports) and supporting assessments and documents, including the technical review of specialist chapters.
  • Be involved in all project life stages, from early strategy development and site identification studies, through feasibility, optioneering/ option selection, outline design, to detailed design, discharging of conditions, construction, and scheme operation/ maintenance.
  • Ensure a critical eye for detail to ensure that our deliverables are produced to the highest quality standards and compliance with our rigorous quality management procedures.
  • Make effective use of your project management skills, appropriately managing resources and budgets (with support as applicable).
  • Work as part of integrated team to improve the environmental outcomes of our projects – you will identify environmental constraints, identify impact avoidance and mitigation solutions, as well as opportunities to deliver benefits.
  • Management of client relationships, internal teams and subcontractors.
  • Promote our environmental services to both internal and external audiences. You will identify and lead business development opportunities and associated fee and technical proposal development.

Who We’re Looking For

  • Comprehensive EIA consultancy experience, with proven skills in managing the preparation of environmental reports and the technical review of specialist chapters.
  • A detailed understanding of marine / freshwater consenting and licensing regimes around the UK and ideally Ireland.
  • The ability to lead collaborative teams, coordinating inputs from technical specialists.
  • Requires the ability to work closely with our clients and the provision of bespoke advice that helps clients to successfully deliver their goals.
  • Project management skills, including programming, staff resource and budget management.
  • A commitment to innovation and continuing professional development.
  • Interest in line management duties and staff mentoring.
  • Developing skills in leading business development opportunities.
  • Efficient verbal and report writing skills, including technical reviewing, and confidence when engaging with a wide variety of stakeholder groups.

Desirable

  • Experience in assessment of impacts in peatland environments would be desirable

Qualifications

  • A degree in a relevant environmental discipline (preferably a Masters degree) and
  • Ideally an appropriate professional membership (Chartered Scientist, Environmentalists, or Water Manager preferred).
