Position: Junior Scientist (TechLaw)

Location: Chicago

Status: Full Time – Temporary

Travel: 100%

Salary Range: $30/hour (plus required overtime) DOE

Office Site/Remote/Hybrid: Remote (away from office and home)

Who are YOU?

A Junior Environmental Scientist with at least 1 year of experience—preferably with a laboratory background or training. You will provide environmental science support to the U.S. EPA’s Superfund program aboard a scientific research vessel on the Great Lakes, which will include water sampling and report writing.

What does your day/week look like?

You Will Be On a Ship For 30 Consecutive Days, Leaving From Chicago On April 1, 2025. You Will Work 12 Hours/day (approximately 84 Hours/week). Your Tasks Will Consist Of

  • Just prior to leaving, you will receive two paid days of training on field equipment
  • Once on board, you will perform daily water testing for ortho-phosphorus using a Lachat continuous flow analyzer
  • After the ship returns, you will have two 40-hour weeks to prepare and write reports based on your sampling and research activities

Special Items To Note

  • This position is contingent upon a contract award to TechLaw Consultants. Award notification is expected before April 1. If TechLaw Consultants is not awarded the contract, the position will no longer be available.
  • Overtime is paid at the rate of time-and-a-half for all hours beyond 40 per week.
  • At the end of the assignment, you may be considered for additional field work at other locations in the U.S.

What do you need for this amazing opportunity?

  • A BS or BA degree in Environmental Science, Chemistry, Biology, or a related science background
  • A minimum of one year of science work experience—laboratory and/or chemistry experience preferred
  • A willingness to spend 30 consecutive days on a government research vessel traversing the Great Lakes, working long days to achieve project goals
  • Demonstrated excellent teamwork and interpersonal skills
  • Good written and oral communication skills, organizational skills, attention to detail and demonstrated ability to meet deadlines
  • At least 21 years of age, legal U.S. citizenship and the ability to obtain and maintain state and federal security clearances
